CD Review - Claudia Acuna's Latest Latin Jazz Album

When offered the opportunity to check, to En este momento, Claudia Acuna's latest album, I jumped at the chance. I am a big fan of Latin jazz in general and Claudia Acuna in particular. When the album arrived, I wasted no time in tearing the cover, and takes shape. I was not disappointed. En este momento, the music is awesome.

Some CDs grab by the throat in the first song, and at the end of the album, the hook is so deep inside you you can not escape. Others comeof you with slow poison, seeping through your consciousness like a soft alcohol. For me, if En este momento of this kind of listening experience. The first time I listened to the album I knew I liked it but not quite sure why. On the second and third listenings, I was immersed in several layers of appreciation, as I listened attentively to every song. In the fourth round, everything came together and I was hooked. That's when I decided that this was my kind of music!

OnOn the surface, appears to Latin Jazz as a relatively straightforward form of music, but the truth of the matter, to play it well, both vocal and instrumental artists must constantly strive to remain "sweet spot between the two genres. With its rich and soft contralto Mrs. Acuna achieve this difficult task seemed almost effortless, explore songs ranging in motion a romantic and sensual, nervous and borderline avant-garde, all the while meeting the main elements of theJazz.

Much thanks also to the world class musicians who performed with her in the album, including Jason Lindner (piano), Juancho Herrera (guitar, mandolin), Omer Avital (bass) and Clarence Penn (drums, cajon, percussion). Additional guests Edgardo "Yayo" Serko (Cajon, Bombo, palmas) and Branford Marsalis (soprano saxophone) to contribute an extra spice to the mix. Mrs. Acuna once said: "I love jazz tradition, but I've always promised myself that my music would pay tribute towho I am, why all my albums contain at least one song from South America. "En este momento is no exception. For this recording she chose drew many Spanish classics such as the hauntingly beautiful" La Mentira "by Alvaro Carrillo Alarcon written, and three songs by Victor Jara, who was called up Bob Dylan of Chile. She slides effortlessly through their own interpretation of the opener "Sueño Contigo" by Uruguayan singer and percussionist Ruben Rada, and showstheir growing confidence as a lyricist and co-composer of two songs, "Tulum" and "That's What They Say."

En este momento is Claudia Acuna's best effort so far. It is for the release of Marsalis Records on 7 April with dates in selected cities in the United States to follow. To hear Don "t miss a chance to watch this exciting new CD, and to this very talented singer in a city near you.
